Big Bolts Need Big Power — And It Starts With a Pump Made in Wisconsin

Think about the massive bolts holding together a wind turbine, bridge, piece of mining equipment, or energy infrastructure. They can’t simply be tightened with a bigger hand wrench. They need an incredible amount of power – applied accurately and consistently.
That’s the job of an Enerpac hydraulic bolting pump.

Built in Wisconsin, these pumps provide the power behind hydraulic torque wrenches used to tighten some of the world’s largest and most critical bolted connections. The concept is surprisingly simple: the pump pressurizes hydraulic oil and sends it through a hose to the wrench. That pressure gives the wrench the muscle to turn massive bolts while allowing the technician to control how tightly they are fastened.
And we’re talking about serious pressure – up to 10,000 pounds per square inch. Imagine the weight of a large pickup truck concentrated onto an area about the size of a postage stamp.

The Enerpac LU-Series Lightweight Electric Torque Wrench Pump, our Wisconsin-made contest entry, takes that industrial power and puts it into a compact, lightweight package designed to be carried by one person. That makes it easier for technicians to bring the power directly where it’s needed – whether that’s inside a wind turbine, at a mine, on a construction site, or in an industrial facility.

It’s a small piece of equipment doing an incredibly big job.

You may never see an Enerpac bolting pump at work. But chances are, you’ve relied on something held together with the kind of power it provides.
