Werner Electric Supply enhanced its customer order fulfillment operations by integrating a custom pick module from Steel King into its 200,000-square-foot distribution center in Appleton, Wisconsin. This custom-configured system was built to maximize storage within the existing warehouse footprint, combining racking configurations integrated with conveyor flow components to streamline Werner’s pallet and carton picking operations. The multi-level rack-supported design means Werner can store products more densely yet with easier access to thousands of SKUs for orders. Orders are packed once, eliminating secondary packing, reducing packing equipment needs and simplifying employee training.
Built with Steel King’s boltless SK2000 closed tubular pallet racking, the system offers 44 times greater torsion resistance and 250% more frontal impact protection compared to traditional open-back racking. With this system, Werner can process orders taken later in the day and get them to customers sooner, helping the company achieve zero backlog targets. The result was a pick module that delivered efficiency, speed, and scalability.
